The Aiken Summer Classic

Week 1 Wrap-Up

$25,000 Sidelines Grand Prix

Viva Las Vegas!

For Immediate Release: June 16, 2025

Aiken, South Carolina

Congratulations to Emma Irwin of Beech Island, South Carolina, and Rosalie Midyette’s Las Vegas on winning the $25,000 Sidelines Grand Prix, besting a field of sixteen horse and rider teams over a course designed by Michel Vaillancourt.

“It was a really nice course,” said Irwin. “Michel always does such a great job designing.” Irwin continued, “There were a couple of interesting options throughout that made it both technical and educational, and a great experience for both horses and riders.”

With a first-round time allowed of 79 seconds, five would advance to the jump-off round. First in the jump off order of go was Rosalie Midyette of Aiken, South Carolina, and her own Luigi Van De Kornelishoeve. While the pair’s time of 33.352 seconds beat the time allowed of 42 seconds, they earned four jump faults. Next up was Brian Gjetley of Aiken, South Carolina, and his own Chaccozin. The pair earned eight jump faults in a time of 39.542 seconds. Isabelle Song of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her own Verdison followed in the order and earned four jump faults in a time of 33.014 seconds. Claire Connagham of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and her own Figment were up next and posted a clear jump off round in 38.051 seconds, taking the lead. That lead was short-lived when last to go Irwin and Las Vegas posted a clear round in a time of 37.471 seconds, earning the win and securing second place for Connagham and Figment.

According to Irwin, she’s been riding Las Vegas since the end of last year. “I’m thankful for our amazing owners, Rosalie Midyette and her husband, Brady Johnson. He’s the best horse I’ve ever had, and I’m incredibly grateful to them for the opportunity to ride him. We are all super excited about his future.”

Song and Verdison placed third, and Midyette and Luigi Van De Kornelishoeve finished in fourth. Gjetley and Chaccozin earned fifth and Midyette returned for a sixth-place ribbon with her own Feret MH, after earning the fastest four-fault first round.

Daniel Geitner of Aiken, South Carolina, earned a seventh-place finish with November Hill’s Jalanne, and Harold Chopping of Southern Pines, North Carolina, placed eighth with Diane Halpin’s Geronimo SCF.

Amanda Dollinger of Chicago, Illinois, and Endress Road Farm, LLC’s Kerly W finished in ninth place. Waylon Roberts of Aiken, South Carolina, and Sher E. Schwartz’s CS Carrera earned tenth and Laura Gaither of Bahama, North Carolina, in the irons of her own Carnlea Premier, finished in eleventh place. Holly Shepherd of Grand Bay, Alabama, and Loretta Patterson’s HJ Hercules wrapped up the class in twelfth place.

Champions

Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35

Watermark, owned by Rose Hill Farm LA, LLC, and ridden by Madison Orr Roberson, was awarded Champion. August, also owned by Rose Hill Farm LA, LLC and ridden by Eleese Shillingford, was Reserve Champion.

Roberson said, “It was a great week at the Aiken Summer Classic. I’m super excited to have been Champion in the Younger Adults with “Mark”, winning three out of four of our jumping classes and winning the combined Adult Classic! According to Roberson, “Mark is a new ride for me, so Friday was the very first time I ever sat on him. I went into the weekend not really knowing what to expect, and couldn’t be more pleased with our results. I know the competition would be tough with it being a WCHR week, and I know some of the riders I had to compete against ride great as well, but I had confidence in my trainers and new horse. We planned to just learn and do our best. The jumps looked beautiful, and the course was friendly for us amateurs.

This week was a little different for me since my mom and trainer weren't able to be here this week. Bella Randall and Ryan Kenny of Clarity Farm put me in the ring, and we had a ton of fun. It almost made it more exciting because it was all new and different. It’s always so wonderful to be able to show in Aiken at Bob’s shows. They’re run so well and have such a great environment. We all love the town of Aiken, and it's such a perk to be here with such great restaurants and energy.”

Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter 36-49

Protokol, owned and ridden by Jennifer Morris, was awarded Champion, and Emerveiller De Muze Z, owned by Mille Fleurs and ridden by Megan Odozynski, was Reserve Champion.

According to Morris, this was Protokol’s [Toki’s] last weekend as a six-year-old, and he’s turning 7 on Monday. (Happy Birthday!).

Morris bought him as a two-year-old, and he’s lived at home with her ever since. “Toki has a great brain- he is brave and likes to see all the hustle and bustle at the shows. He’s never met a stranger and loves to chew on everything and anything, especially reins,” she said.

Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter 50+

Party Started, owned and ridden by Tricia Barr, was awarded Champion, and Red C, owned and ridden by Tracey London, was Reserve Champion.

Barr is trained by Penny Lombardo and said, “Party Started is now eight, but was bred by Pennyless Farm based here in Aiken. This was his first horse show as a four-year-old. It’s always fun to succeed in his hometown. He is such a competitor and wants to try his hardest for me each time he steps in the ring.” Barr continued, “He has been Grand Champion three times at the Aiken Summer Classic, so it feels like he is my seasoned partner.”
